Reynold Lindsey was born October 31, 1950, in Cleveland Ohio to Waymon and Mary Lindsey. He was born at Metropolitan Hospital, which at the time was called City Hospital. He grew up on 109th and Cedar Ave and went to Observation Elementary School. He and his family later moved to 82nd and Quincy, which resulted in him attending Rollins Junior High School and later, East Technical High School before transferring to John Adams High School for his senior year. During his school years he was involved in sports such as running track and football.
After graduation in June of 1969, he joined the United States Air Force. After joining the Air Force, he ended up getting a knee injury and received a honorable discharge. After a period of time, he got a job in a factory as a machine operator. He worked there a few years before he pursued a career in a machine shop and later became a machinist.
He entered into matrimony with Valerie Dale on March 11th, 1975. Before this union, he welcomed three daughters into his life. Throughout their marriage, three additional daughters and a son graced their family. He was very proud and supportive of all his children.
In 1981 he gave his life to Christ and became a born again Christian while at Christ Temple Apostolic Church and some years later became a member at The Pentecostal Church of Christ where he became a minister, then later an elder under the leadership of the late Bishop Jesse Delano Ellis II.
Reynold took photography classes at the Karamu House. He and his wife founded Reynold and Val’s Photography and together they spent many years capturing people’s most special moments. He was very passionate about being a photographer and loved what he did.
As time went on, he left the machine shop after he secured a job with the Cuyahoga County Sherriff’s Department in Cleveland Ohio as a correctional officer where he worked for 21 years. He retired from there in 2016.
He enjoyed being a part of the prison ministry and going to the detention home and other places where he had the opportunity to minister to people that needed to hear a word about the Lord Jesus Christ. He ministered to people about Jesus every chance he got. His love for Christ was evident with how he lived his life. Reynold was a very compassionate, loving, giving, kind, understanding and forgiving man who loved helping people.
Some of his hobbies were watching basketball and football, shooting pool, fishing, watching movies, watching boxing and spending time with family and friends.
December 15, 2023 he took his final earthly breath and entered the eternal realm of glory.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Waymon and Mary Lindsey and his grandson Kevin Tyric Lindsey.
He is survived by his wife Valerie Lindsey, his siblings Geraldine Roberts, Waymon Lindsey Jr (Rose), Gregory Williams, Carmen Lawrence-Glover and Priscilla Lindsey. Children: Tonya Redding (George), Karla Blythewood (Gregory Sr), Kimberley Gullatt (Alandis), Kisha Early (Terricko), Tina Fuller (Rashon), Shelena Omokaro and Reynold Derval Lindsey, 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, mother-in-love Mother Albertine Prince, and a host of family and friends
