We are heartbroken to share the passing of Richard Brown, born May 20, 1962, who departed this life on December 14, 2024. A proud Garfield High School graduate and dedicated employee of Akron Public Schools for nearly 18 years, Richard was a longtime resident of Akron and deeply loved his community.

Richard cherished spending time at home, building strong relationships with his family and friends. He had a gift for cooking, a love for woodworking, and found peace tending to his koi fish pond. These hobbies reflected the thoughtful, creative, and nurturing person he was to all who knew him.

His daughters, Yvaughn Brown and Jacquelynn Charles, extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who cared for their dad and ensured he was surrounded by love during his recovery. Preceded in death by his father Calvin Brown Sr., mother Elizabeth Brown, sister Judith Jones, and son Richard Brown II. Richard leaves behind his devoted daughters, a loving extended family, and countless lifelong friends who will carry his memory forward.

Rikki always had a smile on his face when I would see him in the halls of Buchtel. He even gave me a bottle of his homemade hot sauce.. I was lucky enough to work with Mr. Brown at APS. He was always a light in the school day. Such a gentle giant and so good with people. I never saw him without a smile on his face. He will be sorely missed.

Rikki was a devoted individual who meant so much to all who interacted with him. He was my friend, who helped me become better and more impactful. He was such a guide to young people helping them find better paths in their lives. I will miss you greatly.

Calvary Lodge #76 brother! Master Chef, Master Griller who I accredit for my skills. So many memories so many laughs and arguing about 1040 and Garfield..lol , solving capers, and standing back to back in melee. We always had each other's back and for that I am grateful to have been blessed with a brotherhood that will stand the test of time. Well done my brother, thy good and faithful servant 🙏 Love you
