Richard Huckabee was born in Allenville, Alabama, to the late Inge Huckabee and Lena Collins. On February 25, 2026, surrounded by love, he peacefully returned home to Christ while at Hillcrest Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
Richard accepted Christ at a young age and carried his faith with him throughout his life. He later became a Minister and served as an assistant pastor at several churches across Cleveland. To many who knew him, he was simply and affectionately called “Rev.” His final church home was Mt. Zion Fellowship Church in Highland Hills, where he worshipped faithfully.
With the encouragement of his brother Ed, Richard moved to Ohio and built a remarkable career as a Master Bricklayer. His hands shaped homes, buildings, and memories—his craftsmanship known for its precision and beauty. Ohio is also where he met the love of his life, Rose. Together they shared 70 years of marriage, having six children and building a family grounded in love, faith, and resilience.
Richard cherished his family deeply. He was the one you could call at any hour, always ready to help, always ready to show up. As one of 15 siblings, he valued family connection and carried those bonds throughout his life. He is survived by his beloved sister, MaeBell Smith, and preceded in death by his siblings; Lucile, Lewis, Willie, Mary, Virginia, Celia, Ernestine, Peter, Jona, Ed, Hardee, Ruth, and unnamed twins. He is also preceded in death by his son Allan, and daughter Shirley.
Richard leaves behind his devoted wife, Rose; three sons—Richard Jr. (Angela), Anthony, and Vincent; his grandson Cameron (Betty); great‑grandson Isaiah; granddaughter Alexis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Richard lived a life of service, faith, and quiet strength. He loved to laugh and keep in touch with family. His legacy is one of love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to the people he cared for. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who knew him.
