There are some people whose presence fills a room without them saying a word. Richard was one of those people. Whether music was playing through the house, family and friends were gathered around the card table, or laughter filled the room from stories about time spent with his grandkids, he had a gift for bringing people together.

Richard Williams, affectionately called Rich or Richie, was born on July 8, 1947 in Carnegie, PA. Richard, his parents Gertrude and Richard DosReis, and his brothers Dewayne, Norman, and Marshall lived in Cleveland, Ohio, where Richard attended Cleveland public schools and graduated from East High School. Richard met Zephyr, the love of his life in 1966. Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army until 1969 at which time he was honorably discharged. After Richard returned home from the armed services, he and Zephyr got married in 1970. Richard and Zephyr had three children Carmen, Erin, and Richard (better known as Brandon to family and friends).

Rich lived a life grounded in family and genuine connection. He believed that life’s greatest moments were often the simplest: sharing a meal, listening to music, and spending quality time with those he loved. Following his military service, Richard attended Cuyahoga Community College and he built a career as a Technician for AT&T earning the respect of colleagues through his strong work ethic.

Music was one of his greatest joys. Whether it was classic rock, R&B, jazz, gospel, blues, or any other genre, music was the soundtrack of his life. It could often be heard playing in the background while he relaxed or spent time with family and friends.

On any given Friday evening, family and friends knew they were welcome to stop by for a card party. Rich loved to celebrate, host, and make people feel at home. He was also a devoted sports fan, loyal to Cleveland through every high and low. Football Sundays with the Cardiac Kids were filled with excitement and hope that this would be the Browns’ year. His love for the Browns was made even more entertaining by his roots in Pittsburgh, creating a rivalry with his relatives who proudly cheered for the Steelers.

Above everything, his greatest pride was his family. He loved deeply, gave generously, and found joy in seeing those he cared about thrive. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Zephyr; children Carmen (Osman), Erin, and Richard; grandsons Cameren and Khalil; brothers Norman and Marshall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends whose lives are richer because they knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and Richard, and brothers Dewayne and Lloyd, whom we trust welcomed him home with open arms.

Although our hearts are heavy with grief, they are equally filled with gratitude. We celebrate a life well lived, a man well loved, and a legacy that will continue every time music fills a room, family gathers around a table, or laughter is shared among those he brought together.
