Robert Earl Smith was born on October 25, 1951, to Roland and Annie Mae Smith in Cleveland, Ohio. He was raised with the values of hard work, integrity, and dedication that would guide him throughout his life. Robert, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and proud Air Force veteran, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, at the age of 74.
A retired Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, Robert dedicated 26 years of honorable service to his country. Throughout his military career, he exemplified commitment, leadership, and integrity, earning the respect and admiration of those who served alongside him.
Following his military retirement, he continued to live a life centered on family, loyalty, and the simple pleasures that brought him joy. He was the beloved husband of Rosalia Smith, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, perseverance, and cherished memories.
He was a proud father to his daughter, Andrea C. Hill, and sons, Robert Andrew Smith and Ronnie Aaron Smith. Nothing brought him greater pride than his family, especially his granddaughters, Reese Hill and Marley Hill, whom he loved dearly and took great joy in watching grow and thrive.
Family was at the heart of Robert’s life, and he cherished the special bond he shared with his siblings. While he mourned the loss of his sisters, Lela Mae Walker and Thelma Mason, he carried their memories with him always and remained grateful for the love and laughter they shared. He also treasured his relationships with his surviving sisters, Betty Norris, Juanita Dupree, Doris Ribner, Jacquelin McGraw, Deborah Smith, and Renee Hauser, as well as his brother, Ronald Smith, whose companionship and support meant so much to him throughout the years. Robert was equally proud of his many nieces and nephews and found great joy in watching the family grow across generations. He was also blessed with dear friends whose loyalty, companionship, and shared memories enriched his life and brought him great happiness.
Robert had a passion for cars and spent many years enjoying an impressive collection of muscle cars, classic cars, and luxury vehicles. A lover of music, his playlist was often filled with favorites from the 1970s, as well as jazz and classic rock and roll. He found great joy in cooking for those he loved, whether preparing family meals in the kitchen or tending the grill to perfect his barbecue. Family and friends always looked forward to gathering around his table, where delicious food, laughter, and treasured memories were shared in abundance.
Known as a quiet man of few words, Robert never felt the need to be the loudest voice in the room. However, if he disagreed with you, everyone knew it. His family often laughed that while he was usually reserved, he could certainly make his opinion known when the occasion called for it. His straightforward nature, dry sense of humor, and unwavering convictions were among the many qualities that made him so memorable and deeply loved.
His legacy of service, strength, dedication, and love will live on through the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched throughout his years. His military service, devotion to his family, and steadfast character will be remembered always by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
May his memory be a blessing.
