Robert Lee Williamson Jr., known lovingly as “Bully,” was born on October 20, 1936, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Robert and Louise Williamson. Bully made his peaceful transition to be with the Lord on June 23, 2025, at the age of 88.
Bully’s life was one of unwavering service, deep faith, and dedication to his family, church, and community. He moved from Memphis to Ohio in 1960, where he joined Lane Metropolitan CME Church in 1963 under the leadership of Rev. Joseph C. Coles, Jr. His spiritual journey began early in Memphis and continued throughout his life in Ohio, where he became an active and devoted member of his church.
Bully married the love of his life, Juanita Johnson, a fellow Tennessean, in 1961 at Mt. Pisgah CME Church in Memphis. Their marriage was a bond built on love, faith, and mutual support. Juanita preceded him in death, and now, Bully is at rest with his beloved wife in eternal peace, reunited with her in the presence of the Lord.
Bully’s commitment to the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church was evident in his many years of service in various roles, including Lay Leader, Steward, Trustee, Recording Steward, and Chairperson of the Budget Committee. He was also an active member of the Unity Choir, Male Chorus, and Ministry to Men. His leadership extended beyond the local church, as he served at the Cleveland-Pittsburgh District level as District Parliamentarian and held several key positions at the Annual Conference level, including President of the Board of Christian Education, Annual Conference Lay Leader, and President of the Christian Methodist Men Fellowship.
On the Connectional level, Bully served with distinction for 12 years on the General Correctional Board of the CME Church, contributing to the Board of Finance and the Board of Publication. His leadership was further recognized when he was elected as Delegate to seven General Conferences: 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006, and 2010. He also served on the Episcopal Committee at the 1998 General Conference.
Bully was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, having been honorably discharged after his service to the country. He later retired from the United States Postal Service as a Supervisor of Mails and Delivery, after many years of dedicated work.
A man of strong character, faith, and compassion, Bully will be remembered for his generosity, leadership, and the profound impact he had on those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of service and devotion to God, his church, and his community.
Bully is survived by his beloved niece and nephews, Julian Williamson, Jermain Williamson, Donald Williamson, Darrell Williamson, Chenault Williamson, and Ashley Williamson, as well as a host of extended family, friends, his Goddaughters Joi Powell and Judy Steward, and his church family who will forever cherish his memory.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has offered prayers, support, and love during this time. Your kindness has been a great comfort.
