Roberta Mae Foy affectionately known as Baby Sister & Bubba Love was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 8, 1940. She was one of four daughters born to the late Bishop William and Missionary Roberta E. Carr.
Roberta accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized by Bishop Carr. Roberta Loved the Lord and served faithfully in many roles at the Church of the Living God. She inherited from her parents a rich legacy in education, spiritual, civic leadership, and music which attributed to the upbringing of her children and grandchildren. She served as a dedicated President of the Choir for over 40 years. She also served as the President of the Mother Board of the Church of the Living God under the leadership of Pastor Mareeta Fowler until she lost her ability to attend church service due to failing health. She never lost her desire and will to praise, worship and work for the Lord.
Roberta was educated in the Gary, Indiana public school system until the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio. She completed her secondary education and graduated from Griswold Institute, where she met and married Mr. James Foy, Jr. in October 1959. Their first apartment was a two-unit building and above them lived the late legendary Cleveland Browns fullback Jim Brown. Roberta was employed in sales for over 30 years namely at Royal Shoe Store, Higbee’s, and due to failing health, she retired as the manager of the Red Cross Department Stores.
Roberta was known for her beautiful, bright, infectious smile. She loved family togetherness and would work tirelessly to plan the first Miller Family Reunion in the City of Cleveland. Her cooking exemplified her life. She was known for delicious Fried Chicken, Sweet Potato, and Apple Pies just to name a few. She never met a stranger. She enjoyed being sociable and telling many stories of her childhood escapades with her life-long friends Canova and Catherine. She was the life of the party anywhere you take her. She loved to travel anywhere you took her and refused to be left behind.
Roberta was a Faith-filled, God-fearing, Strong, and Loving woman of God, and because of her faith in God, she beat the odds and baffled the physicians on multiple occasions. Roberta was called from earthly labor to heavenly rest surrounded by family on June 20, 2023.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents Bishop William and Missionary Roberta Carr; her sister Jean Joyce Carr-Lewis, her son Everett Eugene Foy, Sr., and her son-in-law Brad Davis.
Continuing her legacy of faith in God and love for everyone: her children- Marc (Patricia) Foy, (Cleveland, OH); Kimberly Davis (Solon, OH); Stephanie Foy-Cooper (Streetsboro, OH), and James Foy, IV (Baltimore, MD). Sisters: Pastor Mareeta Fowler and Rev. Delores Rose.
Ready to live and preserve her legacy: her grandchildren- Mareeta (Mikel), Brittany, Marshae, Alexandria, Ryan, Aretha, Tanisha (Anthony), Tandalaya, and Cherdise. Rayfield, Brandon, Stephen, Everett Jr., Lamont, Kenyon (Denna), and James V.
Remembering her in their hearts are her life-long special friends of over 70 years, Canova Matthews (Gary, IN) and Catherine Patterson (Gary, IN). Her niece (daughter) Chevae Richardson and nephew (son) Stephen Fowler, Sr., and her cousin Ms. Tracey Jones. In addition
a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, great-grandchildren, and her loving Church of the Living God family.
