Roy D. Rodgers (“Double R”) was born June 28, 1953 to the late Elizabeth and Robert L. Rodgers in Akron, Ohio.
On the morning of Sunday, September 29, 2019, God quietly transitioned Roy D. Rodgers from this earthly life to an eternal life, which he had already prepared in heaven.
Roy “Double R”, a native of Akron, Ohio, was educated in the Akron Public School System, graduating from high school in 1972.
Being the youngest “baby” of five children, Roy enjoyed the love of all his siblings, plus his parents, family members and friends (“spoiled”). Roy loved his family deeply and would go out of his way to show it; especially with his grandchildren. He was the type of person that showed great love, because he received so much of it from his family.
Roy loved writing poetry (favorite hobby), working on cars, painting all types of homes, inside and out, and dry-walling. He also loved traveling across the country, attending many family reunions.
Roy knew the Lord at an early age, serving as a member of Bethel Baptist Church for many years. On October 22, 2017, he received the right hand of fellowship and became a faithful member of New Jerusalem Inter-denominational Faith Church. He was baptized on June 13, 2019 and stated, “This is the best thing I have done in my whole life. I’m changed.”
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth Rodgers.
He leaves to cherish his legacy and memory, son, Deon Rodgers of Akron, OH; brother Yusuf A. Sabur of Oakland, CA; sisters, Dorothy T. Johnson of Hayward, CA, Gladys (Wilman) Myricks and Cynthia Solomon, both of Akron, OH; grandchildren, Angelyca Rodgers, Deon Rodgers, Shaquille Dawkins, Marquis Sams; great grandchildren, Jamarion Dawkins, Malik Dawkins and Cha’Leyah Key; special friend always, Phyliss Diane Ingersol Mitchall of Akron, OH; nieces, Carla Myricks, Dawn (Andre) Bickley-Baker; nephews, Aaron (Janet) Myricks, Darren Myricks, Shawn Johnson, Jason Johnson and Antonio Thomas; a host of aunts, uncles, great nephews/nieces, cousins and friends that he cherished and loved dearly.
