Ruby Gurley, 81, transitioned peacefully on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at Pebble Creek Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Affectionately known as “Pasty”, she was born Ruby Lee, on March 27, 1937, in Evergreen, Alabama to the late Alvin and Anna (Stephens) Lee. On July 17, 1962, she married the love of her life, Daniel Ezel “Kat” Gurley. They remained married for over 40 years until his death in 2003.
She was a devoted member of People’s Baptist Church for many years. An extreme music lover, Pasty was a member of the Senior Choir. Her favorite song was “On Time God”. She spent 45 years of her life working for the City of Akron, Sun Plastics, Tangier’s and Akron Summa Hospital before her retirement nearly 10 years ago. Ruby was a very direct person everywhere she went. She is known for always speaking her mind. She met a lot of people, but only had two-lifetime friends. A strong matriarch, she left behind an impact on everyone she met, especially her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
She loved to be at home watching T.V., her favorite game shows were Family Feud and Jeopardy. She has always been a Pittsburgh Steelers Fan.
While she has been an upset fan of LeBron James, when he left the Cavaliers, she loved to see him prove to the world how great a basketball player he was!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Ezel; son, Alvin Lee; parents, Alvin Lee and Anna Bea Stallworth; stepfather, Ned Stallworth; brother, Melvin Stallworth; great-grandson, Tavion White and very special sister-in-law, Sarah Gurley.

She leaves a lifetime full of memories to her grandchildren, Rayshawn, Rena, Tanika, Alvin Jr., Andre, Jordan, Trishia and Joshua; 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
