Ruth Ann Carolyn Logan, age 78 and a long-time resident of Cleveland, was born on December 27, 1944, in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, to the late Anna Hubbard and Newman Akins.
Ruth was affectionately known as Ms. Ruthie to her friends, G Ma to her grandchildren, Aunt Rooster to her nieces and nephews, Mother Logan or Mrs. Logan to her acquaintances, Ruth to her family, and Mom by her children. All were terms of endearment given to her because of her loving heart of gold and caring soul. She never met a stranger and never hesitated to share or help those who needed help or assistance. She always gave a piece of herself to everyone who came her way. She was known for her wisdom, love for Christ, laughter, sense of humor, and “telling it like it is”.
Ruth attended Kenston High School in Geauga County. She had a wonderful working career centered around serving others. In the 70’s, she was an administrative assistant for Columbia Records where she met many singers, groups, and musicians of that time. She eventually retired from the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company where she was one of the top sales agents in the company for many years, where she assisted in building up portfolios for top athletes, including many of the Browns, Cavaliers, and Indians. Again, Ms. Ruthie never met a stranger.
Ruth was an advocate for the safety of Women and children and was actively involved in the Women Safe Women’s Shelter for many years here in northeast Ohio. She also established and oversaw a half-way home for displaced Veterans in the Cleveland area as well.
Ruth was also a life-long member of Alcoholics Anonymous, where she served as a sponsor for many. She spoke to many groups in the city and at conferences nationwide. She was extremely proud of her AA Family, having recently celebrated 38 years of sobriety!
Ruth loved to travel and in her lifetime was able to visit Spain, Hawaii, and Africa, as well as some of her favorite places around the country.
The pride and joy of Ruth’s life were her children, her grandchildren, and her family. She loved spending time with all of them. She loved her family deeply and believed in the power of love and family. It was important that they love each other and respect each other’s way of life.
Most important, Ruth had a loving and living relationship with God through Jesus Christ. She would walk around the house sometimes just thanking Jesus for how far she had come and for what He had brought her through in her life. As dementia and Alzheimer’s began to take over, she would often laugh and say, “I may not remember a lot these days, but I do know Jesus and I know where I’m going!”
Ruth was called to glory on September 27, 2023, at the Western Reserve Hospice Facility.
Ruth leaves to cherish her memory her son, Jimmy, daughters Shirley Logan (Jeff), Lisa Jones (Dee), five grandchildren: Lavon, Leonte, Tyesha, Demetrius Jr., and Delicia, fourteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Hubbard and Newman Akins, siblings, William, Raymond, Shirley, John, Ronald, Sidney, and Sadie, granddaughter Passion, son Kevin, and great-grandson, Sincere.
