Ruth Dorothy Fears graduated from Hancock Central High School in 1956. In 1957, she relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, where she began a life marked by faith, dedication, and love for family and community.
At a young age, Ruth joined Thankful Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as church secretary in 1959. Her commitment to her faith remained steadfast throughout her life, and she later served as an usher at Avon Baptist Church, continuing her devotion to service and ministry.
In 1960, Ruth met Roger Fears, the man who would become her beloved husband. They were united in marriage in 1963 and built a life together grounded in love and partnership. From this union, one daughter, Michelle, was born. Michelle departed this life on December 8, 2025.
Ruth was born to Horace and Florence Battle Hill and was the cherished granddaughter of Duff and Jude Battle. She was part of a large and loving family that included four aunts and two uncles.
She was one of four sisters, three of whom preceded her in death: Addie Hill Kemp (Cindy), Hearns Francis Hill (Royal) Heath, Agnes (Charlie) Hill, and Alberta Hill (Leroy) Ficklin. She also shared a special bond with her brothers, Farris Hill, Horace Hill Jr., and Otis (Mary) Hill, who also preceded her in death.
Ruth leaves to cherish her memory a devoted and extended family, including eight nieces, eleven nephews, twenty-four great-nieces, and seventeen great-nephews, along with a host of great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
A woman of perseverance and intellect, Ruth pursued advanced education, studying for her PhD and successfully passing her examinations. She dedicated her professional life to early childhood education and was especially gifted in arts and crafts, using her creativity to inspire and nurture young minds.
Ruth’s life was a beautiful reflection of faith, grace, and quiet strength. She will be remembered for her kindness, her service, and the love she shared so freely with those around her. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
