Ruth Elaine Dotson was born July 8, 1941 to L. Douglas & Mamie Glory McKinney in Youngstown, Ohio. She departed this life on October 25, 2020 at 2:38 PM at the age of 79 where she resided for the last three years with her children Matthew, Melissa & daughter in- law Marlene in Solon, Ohio. She married Michael Dotson on February 21, 1962; to this marriage three children were born. She was a devoted wife & mother who dedicated her life to her family while extending herself to others to ensure that all people were treated fair and equal. She was a dedicated member of the Almighty Church where she was anointed and named the Royal Queen of Justice.
After high school she continued her education by attending Manpower Career Services. She received extensive training in financial banking which enabled her to have a successful banking career where she retired at the early age of 55 from Huntington Bank. She enjoyed playing tennis, gardening, shopping and interior decorating. After retiring, her entrepreneurial skills surfaced where she began to buy, sell and trade items for profit at local flea markets and fairs. Her drive and inspiration encouraged her family to open Homestyle BBQ, implementing her special homemade BBQ sauce and many of her recipes along with her husband “Mike’s famous ribs’’. She was the catalyst in providing guidance while establishing rules & regulations to ensure the success of the operation.
Her life was not confined to just a career, she was an avid servant for God. She often provided comfort, warm meals & opened her home to those in need. Her love for the Almighty Church encouraged her to travel as a Missionary, as many of you already know when a car started up, she was ready to GO! She has traveled spreading Goodwill throughout the United States, to Europe with her sister Calvesta (Honor) & to Africa with her travel “buddy” Joyce Fox (Knowledge). Monthly, she would travel to Detroit for church services in support of Mother Wisdom & the Michigan parishioners. For many years she traveled with her best friend Shirley Madison to many places where they supported and counseled one another along the journey.
She leaves to cherish in her loving memory, her children: Melissa, David (Christine)& Matthew (Marlene) Dotson; Raymond McKinney & Michelle Larde; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren; Ten Siblings: Esther, Calvesta (Love), Jimmy, Joseph (Elaine), Joanna, Darlene, David, Christine (Lorenzo), Delores (Skipper) & Magdalene; Four other sisters in law: Mildred Smith, Louise, Theresa & Faith Dotson; along with many nieces, nephews, family & friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her Parents, husband, daughter (Validity McKinney) & three siblings: Elisabeth, Caroline & Mary.
