Ruth Harris born September 6th, 1925, in Cleveland Ohio to the proud parents of Johnson and Lillie Mae Harris. The first born of four children, Ruben Iola and Ulysses. Educated in Cleveland Ohio, Ruth attended Wooldridge Elementary School, Kennard Jr High and Graduated from John Hay High School.
She met and Married Lacy Brooks to this union two children were born, a daughter Edith in 1944 and three years later a son Lacy Jr in 1947. She went on to work at the United States Post Service and then to the State of Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. She so cherished helping others and especially those in need. Retirement did not stop her Ruth continued to work even at 90 years old faithfully with the Ohio board of elections.
Ruth was known to be a phenomenal woman by all who knew her, always a showstopper in whatever room she entered. Enjoyed and dedicated her time to Lady D’s Drill team founded in Cleveland Ohio, a member of the 21st Congressional Black Caucus and Marched in Atlanta in the early 80’s to fight against the killings of innocent black children residing in Atlanta Georgia with a picture of her granddaughter Cherina who lived in Atlanta on her jacket which made headlines. The Greatest Grandmother a child could be blessed with her generosity fed clothed housed and educated them all!! A devoted Christian Ruth faithfully attended the Original Harvest Missionary Baptist Church and loved attending Sunday services as long as she could.
Ruth was called home to rest in Gods arms on March 13th, 2025. She leaves to Cherish her memories two Children Edith Rimmer, Lacy Brooks Jr Grandson Lacy Brooks III Cherina Brooks, Mynette Brooks, Cheryl Phillips (deceased) Denise “Vonn” Brooks and James Ladd. 19 great grandchildren and many, many, great grand grandchildren, and a continued count of Great great, great, children.
