Sallie Bell Myrick, born on October 1, 1925, in Trenton, TN, was a woman of faith, strength, and resilience. Her parents were Addie T. Welch-Gibson, and her stepfather was Samuel Gibson. At an early age, Sallie embraced Christ and was baptized at St. Peter Missionary Baptism Church in 1937 by Reverend Peterson. Her early education was at Number 4 Middle School.
Growing up with three siblings, Samuel Gibson (Dorothy), James Gipson (Mary), and Lizzie Smith (Smitty) who are all deceased, Sallie was raised by her grandmother Hester Savage-Jones until the age of 16. After her grandmother’s passing, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she found employment at the Hilton Hotel.
On July 7, 1954, Sallie married Claud W. Myrick, and from this union, they were blessed with three children: Arvella Myrick, Claud Myrick, and Tamara Myrick. She also lovingly embraced children from a previous relationship: Angela Thompson (Lee, deceased), Jerome and Ernest Gibson (deceased), and Leamon Gibson (deceased, Diane).
In 1968, Sallie moved her family to Cleveland, Ohio, and worked at the Cleveland Clinic until her retirement in 1988. She was an active member of the usher board at Cleveland Church of Christ.
Sallie’s legacy extends through her family, including 9 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, she leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Sallie Bell Myrick’s life is a testament to faith, love, and the enduring bonds of family and community.
