Sammy Glenn Hunter Jr. was born on September 11,1978 in Cleveland, Ohio to his loving parents, Lisa Ann Hunter, who preceded him in death and Sammy Glenn Hunter Sr. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Eunice Clark & Claudius Clark Sr, Francis Doss & Tommy Doss and Sammy Jenkins. He was the eldest of six siblings.
Sammy, affectionately known as Weet, grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and attended St Adelbert and St Francis Catholic schools. He also attended Euclid High School. His educational journey is where his passion for learning new and interesting schools of
thoughts and ideas began. During his childhood, he developed his love of football and played for the “97th St. Bulldogs” on the Pee Wee” team.
Sammy was baptized and gave his life to the Lord at an early age. His spiritual journey began at the time and continued throughout his life. This journey led him to spend many hours volunteering at various churches.
His love for the variety of life led to him endeavoring in a diverse selection of jobs including working at Ford Motor Company where he was praised for his work ethic. He excelled at working with his hands and his strength which led to jobs as a tow motor operator, a bricklayer, and construction work.
Sammy was blessed with four beautiful children, Sammy G. Hunter Ill, Samir G. Hunter, Savanna Rayne Hunter and Samari G. Hunter, whom he loved and adored. They were the world to him and he wanted them to have the best of everything in life. His children brought so much joy to his life and he loved the time spent with them.
When he had his only daughter, his heart overflowed with joy. She was the apple of his eye.
From a very young age, Sammy was a rambunctious and adventurous soul. His sense of adventure was unmatched. Being the one of the eldest of the cousins, he would take them on the craziest escapades. Of course, this might get everyone in a bit of trouble but they enjoyed it and would adventure off with him again and again with the best stories to tell for the rest of their lives. His love of life was always shown in his mischievous smile and his playful nature. He was always teasing his nieces and
nephews engaging them in his playful nature as he had with his siblings and cousins. Sammy was also one of the toughest kids you’d ever meet. This was solidified when at a very young age when he met Mike Tyson on 105th, who said in that voice known around the world “This kid is tough. Watch out for him!”.
Sammy never forgot it and would recall that moment time and time again. This was also evidenced as he made himself the protector of the family. His love of family was the reason he showed up for everyone for whatever was needed. This loyalty to his relationships was also extended to friends. His uniqueness and courageousness was witnessed by all who met him. He was proud of being “East 105th born and raised”. The friendships he began as a child lasted throughout his life. He loved music. He would write rap songs and poetry. Sammy was smart. He would engage in all types of topics.
He loved just talking to family and friends on a variety of subjects. The person he loved talking to the most was his mother. They would talk for hours. Their bond was something to behold. He would say after her passing how much he missed talking to her and felt she was the only person who really understood him.
Sammy suddenly fell ill in August, right before his birthday. Being the fighter that he was, he fought as long as he could and was called home to be with his Lord and Savior with his loving family by his side. He leaves to cherish his memory: His children: Sammy Jr, Samir, Savanna and Samari; His father: Sammy Hunter Sr (Dorene); Siblings: Aaron Hunter, Tanecia Hunter, Terrell Hunter, Dae’von Hunter and Marques Hunter and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and loved ones.
