Samuel (“Sam”) Barrington Nurse II was born to parents, Duetta R. and Charles T. Nurse Sr. on October 21, 1953, in Barberton, Ohio. He died, peacefully, on October 13, 2019, at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center after a short illness.
Sam was a Vietnam Veteran and rarely spoke about his time in the service. He should have had a career in singing. When his favorite groups would come on, like The Whispers, The O’Jays, Maze, The Dramatics and The Temptations, he would serenade you. He also loved to dance. He would spin you around like a ballerina and never miss a beat.
He loved his family and his son, Brian, and his grand-daughter, Ot’Tyanna (“Scrubby”) were the apples of his eye.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Duetta Nurse; sisters, Jacqueline Nurse, Alice Nurse, and Stephanie Nurse; niece, Duetta E. Nurse II; grandparents, Samuel B. and Annie Nurse and Leona Booker; and nephew, Antonyo R. Lee.
He leaves to cherish his memory his best friend, ride-or-die for life, Georgina Townsend; son, Brian Townsend; granddaughter, Ot’Tyanna Townsend; brothers, Charles T. Nurse Jr., Lawrence A. Nurse and Kevin Moss; sister, Judith L. Nurse; mother-in-law, Dessie R. Lee of Hattiesburg, MS; brothers-in-law, Terrence Townsend and Christopher (Toya) Lee; sisters-in-law, Anna Lee, Desiree (Steven) Lee Walker, all of Akron; Lillion Lee and Sophia (Oliver) Lewis of Hattiesburg, MS; uncle, Tommie (Bonnie) Townsend; special friends, John Wiggins, Kenny Freeman, Fred Cloud, Thomas Carter, Greg & Wayne Henderson, Calvin Williams and Leonard Johnson; and other extended family members, Booker, Coker, Scott and Sneeds.
