Sarah Anna Rigby was born on April 15, 1930, to Millard and Sarah May Randolph in Homer City, PA. She was the youngest of 7 children; Leroy, Millard, Lea, Clara, George, and Clark. When she was 7, the family moved to Josephine, PA. where Sarah attended school and graduated from Blairsville High School in 1948. During high school, Sarah gained popularity for singing and was affectionately known as “Songbird” to her graduating class. In 1951, Sarah married Boissie Leon Rigby. To this union, was born 6 children; Cheryl LaVonne, Gail Denise, Sherry Lynn, Patrice Diane, Melanie Ann, and Boissie Tyrone.
In 1952, she found employment with the U.S. Post Office and worked there until 1967. After 15 years of service, she became interested in Cosmetology and attended Washington Beauty Academy through whom she became a licensed beautician and an instructor until 1970. In the same year, Sarah changed her interest to nursing and attended Cuyahoga Falls School of Nursing, graduating in 1971. Upon passing state boards, she became licensed to practice nursing in the state of Ohio. She then began working at such places as; Children’s Hospital, Hawthornden State Hospital, and Brecksville V.A. Hospital, just to name a few. After working 32 additional years in nursing, she retired from Essex Nursing Facility in 2002. After retirement, she enjoyed ceramics, music, church, reading, shopping and spending time with her friends and family.
On Friday, March 15, 2019, at the age of 88, Sarah was called home to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her son, Boissie Tyrone Rigby; grandson, Gerald Blaine Rigby, and daughter, Cheryl LaVonne Rigby.
She is survived by her daughters; Gail Rigby of Akron, Ohio, Sherry (William) Gibson of Cleveland, Ohio, Patrice (Walter) Mathis of Akron, Ohio, and Melanie Thompkins of Forest Park, GA; 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, dearest cousin Mary Goins, and a host of relatives and friends, far too many to name. She will be forever missed and never forgotten…
