Sarah Mae was born on April 25, 1939, to two loving parents, Lani and Irene Carter, in Waverly Hall, Georgia. She was one of 11 children. She was born into a family that fell in love quickly with Sarah. Sarah attended school in the county, and, upon graduation, she quickly joined her two older siblings, Lonnie Carter (deceased) and Julia Carter Mahone (deceased)
Once in Cleveland, Sarah made a path for herself; she met and married Moses Moore (deceased).
After working at Juanita’s Restaurant, she was hired as a baker at Hough Bakery where she became a principal baker. Later, she would become a head pastry chef at the Marriott from which she would retire.
Sarah’s strong faith in God was like no other. She dedicated her life to God and was a faithful servant to God. Sarah was a member of Mount Gillion for over 40 years. Her years of service were stellar.
Often referred to as Mother, Auntie, Sister, Teacher, and most importantly Friend by everyone who crossed paths with her.
Making wedding cakes for “Her Children” was her way of giving her seal of approval and blessing.
Sarah made sure she was present at the birth of new family members, birthday celebrations, proms, and graduations. Sometimes, her love could seem rough but it was what we would need sometimes.
Sarah loved to dance with her sisters; she had a love for music and many would be surprised to know that Tupac was one of her favorites. A huge sports fan, a phone conversation would be really quick when the Cavs or Browns were playing.
Of all these things about Sarah…. Family was everything to her, making sure everyone was alright. Her relationships with her siblings were individual, but collectively they were one.
Sometimes she stepped out of sister role and into her mom role, especially when it came to Lue, Francis, and Arthur and their children became her children.
Her love of life was beyond words, her joy of cooking was her love language.
