Sarah Mae Robinson, affectionately known by many by her maiden name, Sarah Mae Johnson, peacefully transitioned to her eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of profound love, unwavering faith, and grace. Born on August 23, 1934, in Wilcox County, Alabama, Sarah was the daughter of the late Mary and Richard Johnson Sr.
A Journey of Purpose and Family
In her early twenties, Sarah’s journey led her to Akron, Ohio. It was here that she planted deep roots and spent the remainder of her life building a home defined by warmth and devotion. She was united in holy matrimony to her devoted partner, Lucius B. Robinson. Together, they shared 56 beautiful years of marriage, standing as a testament to commitment and partnership.
Sarah was a woman of many talents and a tireless work ethic. She was a dedicated employee of Cintas for many years, where she took immense pride in her contributions. Outside of her professional life, she was an artisan of the home; she found great joy in sewing, gardening, and cooking. Her kitchen was the heart of the family, a place where food and fellowship bound generations together.
A Legacy of Faith
A woman of steadfast spirit, Sarah was a faithful servant of North Hill Community Baptist Church. Her faith was the compass of her life, and she served her church community with diligence and heart until her health no longer permitted. Her resilience and kindness were rooted in her deep-seated belief in God, serving as a guiding light to all who knew her.
Family Matriarch
As the matriarch of a large and vibrant family, Sarah’s strength was the foundation upon which many stood.
- Children: She was the proud and caring mother of Robert Washington, Lucius Washington, and Cynthia Portis.
- Grandchildren: Her love continues through her grandchildren: Sarah Washington, Shetika Washington, Robert Washington, Roderick Washington, Susie Washington, and Shaquita Harris.
- Siblings: She was preceded in death by her siblings Alan Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Napoleon Johnson, Ruth Durkin, Willie Johnson, and Bertha Hunter.
- Survivors: Her memory will be cherished by her surviving siblings: Richard Johnson Jr., James Johnson Sr., Tansy Peterson, Minnie Cherry, Elvina Peterson, Henry Johnson, Eugene Hunter, Rose McGuire, and James.
