Seab Coleman Jr. was born on November 7, 1934 in Hickory, Mississippi. He was the tenth born of thirteen children to the union of Seab Coleman Sr. and John Ella McKee Coleman. His siblings, with the exception of one, preceded him in death.

Seab attended school in Hickory, MS through the ninth grade.  Following school, he worked with his family on the farm.  Prior to meeting his wife, he became a father of two sons James Chambliss and Dennis Coleman, who preceded him in death.

On May 5, 1954 he married Barbara, to this union three children were born Jacqueline, Seab III and Mark.  To support his family in 1954, he enlisted in the Navy where he proudly served.  He began as a swabbie on the Navy vessel deck, later advancing to a Chef and obtained his degree in Culinary Arts.  In his spare time, he partook in boxing competitions.  Seab loved to reminisce on his many travels abroad to areas including France, Italy and Germany, to name a few.

Following his military service, he worked three jobs to support his family, until the beginning of his entrepreneurship journey in Cleveland, OH in 1962.  Hauling and Disposing of debris from construction sites evolved into an Interior Wrecking and Mechanical Dismantling Company.  In 1978, Coleman Trucking was Incorporated. Today, the companies primary focus is on Abestos Abatement and it employs his children and even 3rd generation grandchildren. After his retirement, his business mind never turned off.  Seab was a visionary and made his dream a reality.  With the foundation he set early on, he leaves an impressive and powerful legacy for his family to continue.

In 1980, he moved back to Hickory, MS, where he purchased and built a home on his families land.  During his retirement years, he truly enjoyed being back in the south surrounded by nature. His favorite past times were, hunting, fishing, gardening, farming, and admiring the fruits of his labor.

Seab enjoyed hosting his family and kept a house full of grandchildren every summer. During their visits, he taught them his “country” way of life from picking vegetables to riding horses, to catching catfish on the pond, swimming, feeding pigs, and everything else in between.

Outside of the other things that brought him joy, he loved to serve the Lord. Seab accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. He was a faithful member and served many years at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Despite his declining memory, he continued to hold onto his faith.  He was heard praying and singing hymns all through the night, even in the hospital in his last days.

After courageously fighting his illness, God gave him eternal rest on Sunday, May 28, 2023. He leaves to cherish in his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Barbara, three children: Jacqueline, Seab III (Elise), Mark (Kimberly) and sister Earnesteen (Mannuel) Scruggs. 13 Grandchildren: Lazette (Anthony), Tyra (Kevin), Markita, India (Maurice), Adrian, China (Ishmael), Brittany (Eddie), Jasmine, Seab IV, Sean, Dylan (Kate), Tylan, and Ivori. 17 Great grandchildren: Diamond, Makayla, Keaira, Chance, Wayne, Trent, Kingstin, Dallas, Lila, Akio, Kenzo, Andre, McKenzie, Kennedi, London, Greyson, Elijah and a host of other loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A word of advice from Seab Coleman Jr: “DON’T TAKE NO WOODEN NICKELS”!!!!
