Selbourne A. Colthirst was born on January 5, 1951, to Iveth and Winston Colthirst in the Trelawny Reserve District of Jamaica. Selbourne was the eighth child of twelve children.
Selbourne attended school at Waldenisa of Reserve in Jamaica. He later worked as a bodyguard for politicians. Selbourne loved his job because of the love he had for Jamaica and his people. He was loved by many.
Selbourne met his loving wife, Patricia Taylor, in Spanish Town, Jamaica, in 1975. They were united in marriage on February 14, 1987, and to this union they were blessed with four children: Dwight and Sherrice Colthirst, Dothemes Colthirst, Diante Colthirst, and Denisha Colthirst; the eldest child, Merrinese; and Chester McPherson.
Selbourne migrated to the United States in July 1989, where he became a chef, working for Olive Garden and Charley’s Crab. He and Patricia built a beautiful family with faith and prayer. He was a man of God; he loved the Lord deeply.
Selbourne had a love for music; he often hummed his favorite songs. He loved traveling the world and often returned home to Jamaica to spend time with his family and friends. He loved playing dominos, enjoyed cooking, and cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Pops.”
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Patricia Colthirst; five children; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Loyd Colthirst and Morjorie Colthirst; Lemuel Colthirst; and four sisters: Yvone Taylor; Pastor Deloris and Edward Collins; Beverly and Noel Booth; and Janette Dailey.
Selbourne went on to join his seven siblings when he was called home on November 7, 2025.
Strong and steady, kind and true,
A father’s love shines through and through.
Though you rest now peaceful and still,
Your love surrounds us and always will.
