Shevaunghnd Lee (Cruse) Williams, 87, was born February 9, 1935, to the late Waymon C. Cruse, Sr. and Beatrice Mitchum Cruse. She was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from Central High School in 1953 and attended the University of Akron. On March 27, 1954, she married the love of her life, Eugene Williams, Jr. She was a mother of six children, nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren. She was instrumental in the implementation of programs and services of the Lane Field Improvement Association. She was the first Howe Street Block Club President in the sixties. She served on the Governing Board of Model Cities. Since the age of 16, she also organized Girl Scout Troops in the City and was a troop leader. As with other Founders, she was a leader wherever she went. She was the Chief Steward for the Union Local #3113 of Brecksville’s VA Hospital from which she retired. She was a lifetime member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) where she held many leadership positions. Due to illness, she recently stepped down from both the governing Board, and as an official of the National Association of Federal Employees # 168 Chapter (Akron, Ohio). She was a faithful member of Arlington Church of God of Akron, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Williams Jr.; loving parents, Waymon Cruse, Sr. and Beatrice Mitchum; as well as 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
She leaves to cherish her memory to her son, Norbert S. Williams; daughters, Iris R. Williams, Rochelle Y. Williams Weiss, Renee Y. Williams Ellis, Cinda G. Williams Johnson and Tonya L. (Bishop Ron) Higginbottom; sister, Oreatha (Wreney) Colvin; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; and best friend who was more like a sister for over 50 years, Donna Mathews.
