Shirley Ann Leonard was born on March 14, 1950, in Cleveland Ohio to the late Sylvester and Daisy Jones. Shirley was the 4th of 6th children. From an early age, Shirley accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and her faith remained a cornerstone of her life.
Shirley was educated through the Cleveland Public School District and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School. Shortly before graduating high school, Shirley became a Certified Nursing Assistant. In 1968, she met the love of her life, Calvin Leonard and their love blossomed into a beautiful marriage on July 28, 1973. Together, they celebrated 52 wonderful years, building a life filled with laughter, love, and unwavering support.
In 1979, Calvin and Shirley moved to California and in 1983 she obtained her License of Practical Nursing from the State of California Apprenticeship Council. Shirley remained a committed and caring nurse for the remainder of her career. Her gentle demeanor and soft-spoken nature made her a beloved caregiver, as she comforted countless patients with her good heart and compassionate touch.
A devoted follower of Jesus, Shirley found solace in her faith. She read the Bible daily, seeking guidance and strength through prayer. Her beautiful smile radiated warmth, bringing comfort to those around her. In her home, there was often a cake ready to be shared—a symbol of her generosity and love for family gatherings. Her baking not only filled bellies but also hearts, as she created sweet memories that will be cherished forever.
Shirley enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. Her love for plants and flowers mirrored her nurturing spirit. Family was at the heart of her existence, and she cherished her sisters, creating bonds that only grew stronger over the years.
Shirley was a beacon of love and compassion, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Siblings Sylvester, Alan, Sandra and Theresa preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Calvin Leonard, her sister Deborah (Joe Lee), sister -in- laws Linda, Diane and Betty; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other loving relatives and dear friends.
