Shirley Jean Arnold, affectionately known as “Buzz” and “Sherry Jean”, entered heavenly rest on Sunday, June 26, 2022. She was born in Fairfield, Alabama on August 1, 1954, to Willie Nell (Arnold) Jackson and Warren Williams, Sr.
She spent much of her childhood between Los Angeles, California and Cleveland, Ohio. Shirley graduated from East High School in 1972. She attended and graduated from Kent State University in 1979. She pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in 1977. Shirley resided in Detroit, Michigan during the late 1980’s, before returning to Cleveland. She held many positions over the years, always as an act of service. She was a drug counselor at Hitchcock Center for Women and the Cleveland Treatment Center. She then went on to work for Cuyahoga County Department of Employment and Family Services. She also spent time in schools as a substitute teacher and helping handicapped children, which gave her much joy. She was recently handling rental processing for families with COVID.
Shirley loved her family and took pride in learning as much about her ancestry as possible. She knew family history: old news, or new news; she was always on it.
Shirley was multifaceted. Not only did she enjoy partying and having a good time with friends and family, but she was also an avid lover of continued education and encouraged each generation to continue their educational journey. She enjoyed traveling, especially to visit those she loved. She considered herself a true “Leo.” She appreciated factual conversations and was not one to bite her tongue.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Willie Nell Jackson; father, Warren Williams, Sr.; brother, Warren Williams, Jr.; and sister, Irma Jean Williams.
Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her only child, Sheree Talley; sisters, Bernadean Davis (Marcus), and Jacqueline Rice (Charles); brother, Kevin Williams; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
