Shirley Mae Wolfe (Jones) earned her heavenly wings on Sunday, February 28, 2021. This beautiful soul blessed us with her presence for 65 years. She was born on March 22, 1955, in Oak Ridge, TN to Mary Ella Jones and Joe Simmons Jr. Shirley was a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many. She never met a stranger and loved being around people.

Shirley moved to Akron with her mother at a young age. She graduated from South High School class of 1973. She then went on to graduate from the University of Akron with an associate degree in business. Shirley began her 29-year career with the City of Akron as a clerk typist in 1991.  She was promoted to a cashier I in the Utilities Business Office in 1993 and to a clerk typist III in 1994. In 2003, she assumed the role of an administrative assistant III. She had a strong work ethic, a sense of community, and high moral standards.

Shirley attended Providence Baptist Church as a youth where she accepted Christ as her savior. She later joined New Hope Baptist Church where she has maintained her current membership and has enjoyed singing in the choir.

Shirley was the matriarch who brought joy to family and friends. Out of all the hats that she wore, being a mother and wife is what she cherished the most. Shirley took pride in her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments and spoke highly about them to others. Shirley lived life to the fullest and loved being on the go. She devoted her time to various social organizations.  She participated in Gospel Meets Symphony, a member of the LeBron James Grandmother’s Fan Club, and the Women Who Care Birthday Club. She enjoyed shopping, going to the casinos, and traveling.   Shirley always had words of encouragement and was a blessing to all with her generous spirit and pleasant personality.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jones, and brother, James William Jones.

She is survived by husband, Norman Bernard Wolfe Sr.; sons, Dierre Pearl, Norman Wolfe, Jr. (Latoya); daughter, Carmesha Williams (Kevin);  father, Joe Simmons Jr.; stepdaughter, Janelle Wolfe; grandchildren, Brooklyn, Dakota, Milan, Dariona, Ava, Daryion, Jayden, Hayden; sisters, Bridget Jones, Ta’Lesha Harris; sister-in-law, Ann Brown; brother-in-law, John Wolfe and Marvin Leneo; nieces, Ta’Mesha, Maresha, and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
