Sidney Fields McCarthy went home to be with the lord on August 6, 2015 in Cleveland, Ohio. He leaves behind to mourn his loss, his beautiful family, as well as a host of friends (in both Cleveland, Ohio and Macon, Georgia). Sidney was an Army Veteran and was proud to serve his country. Mr. McCarthy will be Honorably interned at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, in Rittman, Ohio.

Our beloved, Sidney Fields McCarthy, departed this life on August 6, 2015 in Cleveland, OH. He was a loving and caring Uncle, Friend and Believer of Christ. He leaves; his cherished memories in the comfort of a close confidant and friend, Mr. Hosea Hearn of Cleveland, OH; two devoted cousins: Leontine Espy, of Macon, GA and Betty Alsagaf of Hartford, CT; two sisters in-law, Josephine McCarthy of Manassas, VA and Hilda McCarthy of Washington DC; nephews/nieces: Michael (Melinda Banks) McCarthy of Macon, GA, Benny McCarthy of Memphis, TN, Larry McCarthy of CA; Beverly, Rene and Toni McCarthy of Manassas, VA; Andrea, Khaia, Shianne and Legacy Gibson of Macon, GA; Lisa and Terrion Dennis of Macon, GA; Ebony Miller of Macon, GA; and Teghan, Papilion and Soleil Collins of Macon, GA.
Born next to the youngest child to the parentage of Clarence Julian and Clifford Mell McCarthy, Sidney was raised in the Pleasant Hill Community in Macon, GA. His maternal grandparents were George and Amanda Hudson Mell of Andersonville, GA; and his paternal ancestors included George McCarthy and Mary Baker of Macon, GA; and Spencer McCarthy of Clinton, GA. He was preceded in death by five brothers: Gordon, Clarence, Richard, Lawrence and Marion; a loving sister in-law, Annie McCaskill McCarthy; and a cherished niece, Valeria McCarthy Collins of Macon, GA.
Sidney Fields McCarthy, known for his quick wit, his infectious smile and his righteous desire to help others, touched the lives of many. He was an artist, an avid writer and was very passionate about education. Sidney pursued life as a life-long learner. He was educated in the Bibb County Public Schools in Macon, GA; attended Fort Valley State College; and later enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the Korean War, received honors/commendations and was honorably discharged in 1952..
