Sidney Mitchell was born on May 30, 1944, in Pensacola, Florida, to the late Mamie Mitchell and Frank Mitchell. Sidney was the youngest of 14, and out of that union were born Voncille, Frank, Thelma, Henry, Shirley, Sylvia, and Angela, all of whom preceded him in death. From an early age, Sidney showed strength and responsibility as he took care of his siblings. He received his education at Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, Florida.
In 1965, Sidney decided to move north to Cleveland, Ohio, to be near family. There, he worked at Alcoa Steel, bringing a strong work ethic and expertise to the company. Sidney later became an active member of the Divots Golf Club in Highland, Ohio, where golf became his favorite sport. He also joined the Spirit of Ohio Elks Lodge 52, spending a great deal of his time there and enjoying the fellowship of the community. He loved playing cards, pool, and the lottery, and he also truly enjoyed dancing. Sidney was known as a people person hilarious, warm, and a funny man with a smooth voice.
Sidney leaves to cherish his memories his Son Tyson (Tanya) of OH, His Daughter Tawanna of VA, and his Son Alton (Ashley) of ATL, Grandchildren’s, Shami, Nailah, Mykenzie, Allandi, Ashton, Brielle, Charlie and three Great Granddaughter Ayah, Mylayah, and Au’lani. Sidney also leaves to cherish his memories two Sisters, Rita CA, Marilyn FL, and his Brother Felix TX.
Sidney is further survived by his special nieces, Sharon, Lisa, and Lynette, and his special nephews, Malcolm, Frank, and Sandford. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Sylvia Jean Mitchell, along with a host of family and friends.
