Singer Chappell was born on November 6, 1932 to the union of the late Tom Chappell and Iris Chappell in Sparta, Georgia.
He attended Hickory Grove School. He grew up in a large family of 12 siblings whom he loved very much. He accepted Christ at an early age at Hickory Grove Baptist Church.
Singer moved to Cleveland, Ohio in the early Fifties. He worked for a mattress company at which he met his wife, Katherine. In pursuit of his spiritual awareness, he performed in the gospel quartet groups the Gospel Hebrews and the Royal Jubilees. In that journey, he met the love of his life, Hazel.
He is survived by his sister, Eleen (Beatrice) Norton, brother, Kenne Butts, nephews, Samuel Norton, Jr., Yvon Norton, niece Rhonda Norton and a host of loving relatives.
