Desmond Hanley passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018. Desmond Avery Hanley known as “Desi” was born on August 30, 1990, in La Mirada, California. Desmond Hanley passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018.
Desmond Avery Hanley known as “Desi” was born on August 30, 1990, in La Mirada, California. He was the third of four children to his parents, Hillman and Angela Hanley of Kent, Ohio. Desmond attended the Solon School Systems and graduated from Solon High School in 2008. He began his United States Air Force career in July of 2008. In October of 2008, he arrived at his first duty station Yokota Airbase, Japan, and served there until October of 2010. His next duty station was Cannon, Air Force Base, New Mexico where he served until August of 2017. He arrived at his final duty station at Anderson Airforce Base, Guam in August of 2017.
During Staff Sergeant Hanley’s career, he was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal and the Airforce Commendation Medal. He deployed to Southwest Asia in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Most recently, he was awarded the 36th Mobility Response Squadron’s Workhouse Award of the month, an award nominated and voted upon by his peers.
Desi’s hobbies included extreme rollerblading, video games, reading comic books, listening to music, drawing, Gundam models, lifting weights, and physical training. He was key in the 36th Mobility Response Squadron, being in the top 10 fittest on base. He was also a first-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do; he also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and driving his red Subaru S.T.I. He taught himself to speak Japanese. He also was an excellent juggler. Desmond would do anything for anyone. He was extremely loving, caring, and kind. He never looked for anything in return. Desmond was a gentle soul. To know him was to love him.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, Hillman H. (Angela Barrett), Hanley; brothers, Dean E. (Carmen) Hanley, Damon D. Hanley, Dion D. (Angela) Williams, Chad K. Barrett, D’Angelo Hanley; sisters, Cassadi M. Hanley, Patrice Hanley; grandparents, Clyde (Sue) Barrett and Patricia Zellner; soulmate, Anna Winslow, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and the brothers and sisters of the 36th Mobility Response Squadron of the 36 Contingency Response Group.
