I am so saddened by this. Stuart pushed me for 3 years to be a better athlete and a better person. He was by far better in both. I remember our high jump competitions in track, he was so competitive! I also remember the summer that he returned from his first year at Michigan. I could not believe what I saw….he was huge and jacked. From then on I watched every UM game to see if I could see Stu play. My friend Rob Klingensmith (track), told me of his passing. I can’t stop thinking about it and for the family….Cynthia, Kenneth…..Love to you all and God Speed to Stu.

Stu was my greatest athletic rival from 8th grade on. West Geauga vs Kenston was always special to me. Because I was going to play against Stuart Harris. We faced each other in basketball and football, and we were both our school’s best players. I remember shaking hands to start a basketball game and the respect I had for him as an athlete was instant. Because when he shook your hand, he looked you in the eyes and its’ Game On! “It took me a few years to get to know quality of the person. Our senior year in football, Stu was The Geauga County Defensive Player of the Year, I was the Geauga County Offensive Player of the Year. In basketball we were both 1st team All County for two years in a row. I remember we beat Kenston on a last-minute pass that I knew if it threw the ball anywhere near Stu, he would intercept it. After the game we spoke, and he asked why I looked one way and threw the ball the other way. I told him; I knew he would intercept it! We laughed and shook hands. Our games in basketball were always great matchups, we would each score 20 or more points, get about 15 rebounds and the games were just great matchups. At the end of each, there was always the handshake. Stu brought out my best athletic performances. He ended up going to Michigan for football, I went to OSU for baseball. Another pretty good rivalry. I learned of his passing from Patrick Cassedy, who was another player on the All-Geauga County Basketball team. Patrick shared this with me because he also was impressed not with Stu the athlete, but Stuart the Person. I am sure Stuart will be a 1st round draft pick to Heaven. He lived a life preparing him for that reward. I hope to see him again someday, have another handshake and look into his eyes again. I may not be a 1st round pick to Heaven, as he is, hopefully I will be later rounds or a free agent signing. But having known Stuart made me a better athlete, but an even better person. I am not surprised he was volunteering as a coach at Kenston. I am sure he touched many people in the Kenston football community. My prayers are with his family. I cannot attend the service this weekend as my son has a football game in NY and I think that is where Stu would want me to be. My love and prayers to you all, Kerry Sabo
