A Time to be Born…
Susie A. Blue was born August 3, 1929, in Marshallville, Georgia to parents, Lonnie and Neat Lou (Plant) Johnson, she was one of three children born to this union.
A Time to Learn…
Susie attended Lamson-Richardson School in Marshallville, Georgia, a school founded by Black people for Black children in the years between the end of Reconstruction and the beginning of the Jim Crow era.” She also attended the Washington Beauty Academy in Akron, Ohio.
A Time to Love…
Susie was married to L.V. Blue and the mother of six children. She instilled in her children a love for learning and life. Making sure her children did not miss out on the social and educational graces of life and the importance of being a part of the political framework that affects all our lives.
A Time to Believe…
She was a member of St, John C.M.E. Church since 1952 serving as a stewardess, class leader, missionary, and in any other area where needed. She also became a member of Second Baptist Church where she attended Sunday school and served as a Church Mother.
A Time to Serve…
Mrs. Blue, as she was fondly called, worked as an Organizer for the Akron Model Cities Program. Her involvement in educational, civic, and social duty involved: PTA Honorary life member in the Ohio Congress PTA Inc; Voting Delegate of the PTA Council; ASCAA governing board; Precinct Committee person; Charter member of the Georgia Peach Club; the Lane Improvement Association; Chairperson for the Snyder Street Block Club; former chairperson of the Happy Hearts Club; the Foster Grandparents program and the Akron NAACP. Among the many awards and plaques she received, Mrs. Blue was proud of the certificate of recognition for Outstanding Services to the Poor — “Boot-Strap Award,” and Distinguished Service Award ASCAC.
Susie A. Blue was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Neat Johnson; husband, L.V. Blue; siblings, Ruth Johnson Waller and Lonnie Johnson Jr.; daughter, Neida Blue Thompson, granddaughter, Eureka D, Thompson, and great-grandson, Lonnie D. Blue Jr.
