Terry Leon Harris, the son of Annie Laura (Hamilton) Moore and the late Alphonso Harris, was born in Fort Gaines, Georgia, on April 14, 1954. Terry accepted Christ at an early age, attending church with his mother at Second Lakeview Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was baptized.
Terry completed his education in the Cleveland Heights, Ohio school system. He attended Boulevard Elementary, Rosevelt Middle School and received his high school diploma from Cleveland Heights High in 1972. After graduation, Terry began his career working at Caterpillar Towmotor Corporation in Mentor, OH, where he worked for 10 years. He then joined LTV Steel, which became Arcelor-Mittal and is now known as Cleveland-Cliffs, where he worked for 36 years before retiring in February 2024.
In July 1977, Terry met the love of his life, Rosalyn Renee Mason and on April 21st, 1979, they were united in holy matrimony. To this union, two children were born: son, Jermaine and daughter, Brittani. Terry was already the proud father of his oldest son, Terence Bush when they married.
Terry was a diligent worker, a great provider, and a loving husband and father. He adored his children and always wanted the best for them. Family, in general, meant everything to Terry and he cherished his mother, brother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, far and near. He loved to travel home to Abbeville, Alabama to see them every opportunity he would get. He had an exceedingly kind and welcoming personality and did not meet a stranger. He did not mince his words. If he said it, he meant it. If he did not say it, you could see it on his face. Family and friends never had to wonder how he felt or what he was thinking. He was an advocate for and mentor to many who struggled with life’s challenges and was always willing to help anyone in need. He encouraged others to remain faithful and work hard to overcome the darkest of times.
Terry was an avid sports fan, and his passion was football. He played football in high school and continued to play flag football in his adult years. He loved the Cleveland Browns, and they were his favorite team. If he was in a bad mood the day the Browns played, then you knew why. When the franchise moved to Baltimore, he shed a few tears. One of his happiest days was when they returned to Cleveland. Terry also loved fashion and took pride in his appearance. He dressed meticulously and was attentive to every detail, from head to toe. You could also bet that he had on the best cologne and smelling good.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, Alphonso Harris; stepfather, Jim Moore; paternal grandparents, Isaiah A. Harris, and Katie B. Harris; and maternal grandparents, Oren, and Viola Hamilton. Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife Rosalyn R.
