Thelma Ann, affectionately known as Punkin, Mrs. Thelma and Petey Pete to many who loved her, was born to Ozie and Estelle (Horton) Platt on October 8, 1948. She was born and raised in east Akron and attended Akron Public Schools. Thelma graduated from East High School, a proud oriental with the class of 1966. She was a very smart and studious young lady, having supreme intelligence, a fierce interest in politics and an expansive vocabulary.

If living life to the fullest was a person then that person would be Thelma Ann Rodgers (Platt). She was known to always do it her way. Thelma was very family-oriented, putting her family above all. Even as brutally honest as she was, she was still fun-loving and always the life of the party. Thelma Ann demonstrated what it meant to be sassy and classy.

Sadly, that beautiful life transitioned peacefully on the early Monday morning of December 6, 2021.

Thelma was fortunate to get a great position with Ohio Bell and AT&T. She then went on to work at the Goodyear facilities as a Telecom Specialist until her retirement. Due to her tireless work ethic she continued to work even after her retirement at several different companies. She last worked at the State of Ohio Unemployment Compensation offices.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ozie and Estelle Platt; sisters, Sharon Platt and Imogene Brice; brother, Robert Platt; and nephew, John Brown, Jr.

Thelma leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy to her children, Shawyna McFadden, Anthony Rodgers and Franklin Rodgers; grandchildren, Trevon “TT” Turner and Joi McFadden; big sister, Mary (John) Brown; brothers, Lloyd Platt, Ozzie “Boo” Platt, Ronald Platt and Freddie Platt; special nieces, Wenda Brown, Felicia Brown and Anggela Brice; special nephews, Antonio Brice, Jonte Brown and Shane Platt; special great nieces, Sharnyse Brice, Aysha Brice and Timia Christian; great nephews, Shamir Brice and Salah Brice; dearest friends, Betty, Glenda, Lorene, Gloria, Janice Davis and Janice Minter; as well as a host of extended family, sister friends and co-workers.
