Ted Carten, age 87, passed away on February 12, 2023.
The life of Theodore Lovejoy Carten
Theodore Lovejoy Carten was born in La Grange, GA on June June 5 1935, the Carten (family) at this time consists of (Father) John W Carten, (Mother) Wilena Carten, (older brother) John Carten and Robert Carten (younger Brother).
Theodore earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Clark College, and his Master Degree in Social Work from Atlanta Universe School of Social Work.
Theodore was a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
Theodore served his country in the US Army from 11 Aug 1955 to 9 Aug 1957 and was honorably discharged August 1957.
Theodore dedicated his professional career to public service. First as a social worker for Goodrich House, then he started working for the City of Cleveland, eventually becoming the Assistant Commissioner of urban development where he eventually retired in 1996, after an accomplished career.
Theodore loved the arts. He was a musician, a playwrite and an actor. He was also an amazing gourmet cook. In his second day career he was the Executive Director, and board member of the East Cleveland Community Theater.
Theodore was also a champion of equal rights, civil rights and women’s rights for his entire adult life.
Theodore was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He lived a full life and will be missed dearly.
Theodore is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Coralyce Carten, his daughter Dr. Carla Carten (son in-law) Dr. Mo Modarres, his son Theodore Carten, (daughter in law) Desy Osunsade), and son Trevor Carten, and grandchildren, John and Daniel Modarres.
Theodore Carten will be remembered and celebrated by immediate family in a small private ceremony on Thursday, February 16th, 2023.
In lieu of flowers the family asked for donations in Theordore’s name, to a place near and dear to both Ted and Coralyce, the East Cleveland Theater.
