Thomas Augusta Long earned his wings and moved to his heavenly home on Monday, March 21, 2022. Thomas was born on June 2, 1930, in Talladega, Alabama, to Augusta and Janie Long, he was the fourth child of twelve children.
Thomas migrated to the Midwest settling in Akron, Ohio in 1951 for the opportunities presented in the rubber industry. His parents and siblings followed him shortly thereafter. He managed a pool room on the Northside of town, affectionately known as the Thomas Long pool room. Thomas worked faithfully as a technician for 20 years at Babcock & Wilcox. Mostly known for his infectious smile and laugh, Thomas never met a stranger and never passed up an opportunity to make someone laugh. He loved to play cards with family and friends. One of his favorite pass times was going to the bowling alley where he would engage in lively conversations filled with fun, laughter, and friendly banter. Thomas was excited to strengthen his spirituality and rededicated his life to Christ in 2022, at Garrett Mission Church in Copley, Ohio. Thomas told his family, “He had his ticket, and he was ready to be with the Lord.”
In addition to his parents, Thomas was proceeded in death by daughters, Janice Rivers and Lisa Holley; son, Kenny Fair; and brothers, William, Walter and Sammy Long.
