In Loving Memory of Thomas Carver Mahone
February 6, 1938 – July 6, 2026
Thomas Carver Mahone, 88, peacefully entered eternal rest on July 6, 2026. He was born on February 6, 1938, in Notasulga, Alabama, to the late Freddie Mahone Sr. and Sarah Simpson Mahone.
At an early age, Thomas accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Notasulga, Alabama, where he was also baptized. His Christian faith became the foundation of his life and remained a guiding force throughout the years.
Thomas attended the historic Shiloh Rosenwald Elementary School and later graduated from Tuskegee Institute High School. Following his graduation, he left Alabama and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he stayed with family members and began the next chapter of his life.
While living in Cleveland, Thomas was drafted into the United States Army on September 26, 1961. He proudly served his country with honor and was honorably discharged on September 25, 1963.
Following his military service, Thomas enrolled as a full-time student at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) Main Campus in Cleveland, Ohio, where he earned an Associate Degree in Accounting. During his studies at Tri-C, Thomas met the love of his life, Inell Phillips. They were united in holy matrimony in 1967 at Providence Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. Their marriage was built on love, faith, and commitment, and their loving union was blessed with two sons, Brian Dexter Thomas Mahone Sr. and Martin Christopher Mahone.
Thomas later began a distinguished career with the United States Postal Service, where he faithfully served for 30 years. He was respected by his coworkers and friends for his dedication, reliability, and unwavering work ethic.
Outside of work, Thomas found great joy in spending time with family and friends. He loved traveling, camping, fishing, and bowling, and enjoyed friendly competition through games of checkers and chess. He also loved playing card games, especially spades, bid whist, and pinochle, where his competitive spirit and good humor brought enjoyment to those around him.
Thomas was an avid bowler and was even featured as a contestant on the popular television program Bowling for Dollars, a memory he always enjoyed sharing with family and friends.
One of Thomas’s most treasured experiences was traveling to Washington, D.C., where he visited the White House and had the opportunity to meet Vice President George H. W. Bush. This memorable experience was made possible through the accomplishments of his beloved sister, Barbara Mahone, who traveled to Washington to be sworn in as Chairman of the Federal Labor Relations Authority. Thomas was immensely proud of his sister’s achievement and deeply grateful to share in such a historic occasion. He often reflected on the trip with fondness and appreciation, considering it one of the highlights of his life.
A devoted sports fan, Thomas closely followed baseball, basketball, and horse racing, appreciating the excitement and camaraderie they brought. Whether traveling, spending time outdoors, bowling, playing games, watching sports, or simply sharing stories with loved ones, Thomas treasured life’s simple pleasures and the time he spent with those he loved.
Thomas was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was known for his quiet strength, gentle spirit, steadfast faith, wisdom, and deep love for his family. His life reflected perseverance, integrity, service, and devotion, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.
Thomas leaves to cherish his precious memory his sons, Brian Dexter Thomas Mahone Sr. and Martin Christopher Mahone; his daughters-in-law, Angela E. Mahone and Alicia Janelle Brown Mahone; his grandchildren, Brian Dexter Thomas Mahone Jr., Nijah Emani Jackson, Cameron Xavier Mahone, and Layla Alexis Mahone; his great-granddaughter, Kimora Aaliyah Jackson; his sisters, Ellen Mahone Parker, Elsie Mahone Davis, Evelyn Mahone Baxter, and Barbara Mahone; together with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
Thomas was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Inell Phillips Mahone; his parents, Freddie Mahone Sr. and Sarah Simpson Mahone; his brothers, Freddie Mahone Jr. and Joseph Mahone; and his sisters, Elaine Mahone Hardman, Jetty Ruth Mahone Fletcher, and Mary Mahone Evans.
Although our hearts are saddened by his passing, we rejoice in knowing that Thomas lived a life rooted in faith, love, humility, and service. He taught us the value of hard work, the importance of trusting God, and the joy of spending time with those we love. His smile, wisdom, quiet strength, and generous spirit will forever remain in our hearts. Though he is no longer with us in body, his legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, family, and the many friends whose lives he touched.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
