Tommie Lee Smith, age 64, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, at Marymount Hospital in Garfield Heights, Ohio. On November 19, 1960 in Meridian, Mississippi, Tommie was born to the late I.T. Monroe Brewster and Mildred Louise Smith. After graduating from John Adams High School, Tommie joined the United States Marine to serve his country. After serving his country, he returned to Cleveland, Ohio where he started his family and found a new passion in truck driving. He was employed with Ferrous Metals, Olympic Steel, and Dworkin Trucking to name a few. Later in life he worked for Reliable Snowplowing in Macedonia, Ohio. Tommie became ill and struggled with some health issues which took him away from his truck driving passion. Tommie continued to live life with his wife, Sarah. Tommie was a devoted husband and cherished father, brother, uncle, grandfather, father-in-law and friend. Tommie found immense joy in attending church, being with family, and watching “MY GRITS” western television shows. He also enjoyed taking long road trips to visit family and friends. Tommie would show up unexpected but on time to help out family and friends. Tommie was known for making the best potato salad. We celebrate his love and his life!
Tommie is preceded in death by his mother and father, Mildred Louise Smith and I.T. Monroe Brewster. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sarah, three daughters, Cassandra Williams (Andrew) of Huntersville, North Carolina, Vanessa and Crystal Fields of Cleveland, Ohio, three sons, Joel Smith of Cleveland, Ohio, Tommie Jamel Smith (Rikki) of Maple Heights, Ohio and Rayshaun Fields of Cleveland, Ohio. Four sisters, Cynthia Ester of Cleveland, Ohio, Helen Martin and Roxiline Emerson of Meridian, Mississippi, and Rose Owens of Macon, Georgia. Four brothers, Terry Smith of Long Beach, California, Allen (Bill) Smith of Cleveland, Ohio, Kenneth Smith (Darlene) of Cleveland, Ohio, Monroe Brewster, Jr of Meridian, Mississippi. A host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Tommie was loved by his family and friends and loved them deeply in return. He will certainly be missed. But we, as the family, know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
