In the early morning hours of August 21, 2018 God called home our beloved mother, sister, aunt, niece and dear friend Vanessa McCail, a God-fearing soul.
Born September 17, 1953 in Akron Ohio to the late Sam and Bernice McCail, she was the eldest of 10 children.
Vanessa graduated from John R. Buchtel High School and attended the University of Akron for several years. She spent over 30 years in the Health Care Field working as a STNA, lastly working at Manor Care of Akron OH, where she often cared for her mother. In 2010 after many years of service caring for others, Vanessa retired from the healthcare field.
Vanessa worked very hard to instill the importance of education into her children. It was with great pride that she watched all three of her children graduate from college with numerous Bachelors and Masters degrees.
Growing up she spent many summers in Upstate New York with her special uncle and father figure Attorney Charles (Delores) Greene, during those special summers she was treated as one of their own children, building and keeping a bond that lasted until God called her home.
One of Vanessa’s greatest joys was having her family over for her annual Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Vanessa would spend days cooking Thanksgiving dinner with her daughters, sharing stories, recipes and creating memories. Christmas was one of her favorite holidays, each year she went above and beyond to select special gifts for her great-nieces and great-nephews whom she loved and adored.
Vanessa was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Bernice McCail, and sisters April and Valerie McCail.
She will be forever cherished by her children Christopher (Morgan) McCail, Jasmine (Jason) McCail and Nickole McCail; brothers Sammy McCail, Bernard (Sabrina) McCail, Harvey McCail, and Jeffrey (Shirley) McCail; sisters Rebecca McCail, Tammy (Michael) McCail, Stacy (Curtis) McCail-White, special nephew Darnell Richardson Jr., to whom she was a second mom to during his primary years, and dear friend Mary Holyfield-Brown, who stayed by her side until the very end, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
