Varnetta Carr was embraced by the loving arms of Jesus Christ and welcomed to her Heavenly home on Sunday, December 15, 2024. Born on September 23, 1948, in Akron, Ohio, to Charles and Anna Carr, Varnetta was the second of six daughters in their cherished family.
She attended Akron Public Schools and graduated from South High School in 1966. Continuing her education at the University of Akron while working at PPG, Varnetta earned a Bachelor of Science in Technical Education in 1982, a testament to her dedication to personal and professional growth. Over the course of her career, she worked at Goodrich Tire & Rubber Co./Michelin and later as a supervisor in the telecommunications department at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital. In this role she led a team of switchboard operators. She concluded her professional journey with her retirement from Summa Western Reserve Hospital.
As a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Varnetta faithfully served in the usher ministry for nearly 35 years. In 2018, she joined Mount Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jeffrey A. Dennis. Her steadfast faith and love for worship were evident as she attended in-person services and later embraced virtual worship services.
Varnetta will always be remembered for her kind and sweet disposition, her deep love for the Lord, her infectious laugh, and her affection for children. Over the years, she enjoyed many hobbies such as bowling with the Friday Night Mixed Bowling League at Stonehedge Bowling Center, line dancing, reading from her extensive book collection, making jewelry, solving word puzzles, and, most importantly, creating lasting memories with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Anna Carr, and her beloved sisters, Elaine Davis and Charlena Haynes. She leaves behind her loving sisters, Anita Johnson, Sheila Addie, and LaDonna Carr, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Varnetta’s love, faith, and joy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
