Velma Garner was born January 21, 1929, to Sam and Blanche Williams, in Fernwood,
Mississippi. She was the youngest of six children. Her parents and one brother, Curtis
Williams; four sisters, Lillie Williams, Eva (Murphy) Ball, Ruby (Fred) Dillion, and Wilma
Williams preceded her in death. She grew up in a Christian home, where she accepted
Christ at an early age. She joined and was baptized at St. Paul Missionary Baptist
Church, Fernwood, MS.
Velma later joined Holly Trinity Baptist church in Cleveland, Ohio, where she was an
active member, serving as an usher for years and was a member of Eastern Star. She
had a passion for cooking and spending time with her family and friends. Their home
was always open to any and everyone, once you walked through the doors you were
officially family. She lived her life helping others, working as a LPN.
Velma Garner met and fell in love with the late Zeb Garner Jr., being happily married for
70 years. Velma and Zeb had a strong and loving marriage that was an example to
many. On June 2, 2022, Velma Garner received her wings, to be reunited with Zeb. She
leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Debra Garner, Paul (Heather) Garner,
grandchildren, Jovahn and Jazzmine, Honorary grandchildren, Sabrina, Valencia,
Rajae, Ronald and a host of relatives and friends.
