Vern Clay Reed was born to the late Dan and Naomi Reed on January 1, 1954, in Akron, OH. He lived in Inglewood, California. He went to Akron Public Schools and graduated from South High School. He was baptized at the age of 12 at Second Baptist Church. He successfully attended and graduated from Ohio Operating Engineer School in 1978.
He enjoyed basketball and had a love for boxing and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rose Del Butler.
He is survived by his wife Dartangnan Reed; children, Danielle Reed, Nadjia Mitchell, Anouk Carswell, Robyn Reid-Fishman, Michelle Brantley, and Shawn Reed; sisters, Patty (Danny) Williams, Shelia Fields and Cindy Pittman-Cook; brothers, John (Diane) Reed, Steven D. Reed and Vincent Pitmen; grandchildren, Justine, Ariene, Nikalia, Caylen, Zharie and Faith, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
