Vernon John Von Timmons was born October 8, 1951, to the late Vernon L. Timmons and Lula Mae Sharpley. Vernon received his education through the Cleveland Public School District, graduating from Max Hayes High School. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a devout Christian professing his love for Christ until his very last breath. Vernon was a master cement mason and a longstanding Cement Masons Union Local 404 member for 35 years. Vernon married his wife of 41 years, Charlene Cannon, at age 29. Born into this union are four children, Dori Dionne, Vernon John Von, Tiffany Francis, and Christina Brianna. Vernon served two tours in active combat duty during the Vietnam War as a United States Marine, “Hoorah”.
Vernon thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching the Cleveland Browns as a “Die Hard” fan with his brothers and son. He was a nature lover who enjoyed being outside and around water, watching movies, cooking BBQ, and frying fish for his family. Vernon was an avid reader taking much pleasure in reading the Bible, and newspapers, and keeping up on current events. An adored pastime was growing his garden at the first sight of Spring, going to see his favorite musicians in concert, and sitting by Lake Erie with his wife. Vernon was a father figure to many outside of his own children including nieces and nephews, family friends, and children in his neighborhood. Vernon fixed their bikes and always asked “Where my money at?”
Left to survive his cherished legacy are his beloved wife Charlene “Motor” Timmons, children Dori D. Timmons, Vernon J.V. Timmons III, Tiffany “T-top” Timmons, and Christina Jackson (Di’Anté); two grandchildren Dior and D.J. He was lovingly anticipating his third grandchild, a baby boy from the Jackson family. Vernon was the eldest son of nine children: Zaundra Smith (Lexton), Donna Fambro, Mirl Timmons (Brenda), Renée Jones (George), Lillian Sharpley, Dr. Maryann Lavender (Kevin), Michael Sharpley (Sheila), Angela Sharpley, one beloved Auntie Hattie Gaines (Linen family matriarch), brother-in-law Leroy Cannon, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
