Virginia Ruth Robinson died on January 22, 2019 after a long illness. She was born in Akron Ohio to the late Virgil and Dorothy Cottman on February 14, 1940.
Virginia was a life-long Akron resident, where she began her school career at Saint Vincent St. Mary Elementary School and graduating from Buchtel High School. She earned her nursing degree at Saint Francis School of Nursing, and spent 25 years following her passion for helping others as a registered nurse.
Virginia returned to school and pursued several degrees, including a Masters in History and a degree in Law from the University of Akron. She began her law career in private practice, then transitioned to a prosecutor for the City of Akron. Later, Virginia served as the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority’s Legal Counsel from 1989 to 2005. After retirement from AMHA, Virginia worked for the City of Akron as the Director of Human Resources.
She joined the Akron Bar Association shortly after graduation from law school, ultimately serving as a past President, as well as the President of the Akron Law Alumni Association and the Akron Shony Orchestra.
In 2009, Virginia was an Honoree to the Akron Law Alumni Association. Active in her community, Virginia served on various boards and committees, such as Mobile Meals, Community AIDS Network, Akron Community Foundation and the Port Authority Board. She was heavily involved in the Akron Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
Virginia was a loving sister, a wonderful mother and a kind supportive friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Robinson; brothers, Jerry Johnson and Richard Johnson.
She is survived by her brother, Evans Cottman; four children, Cynthia Johnson, Valerie Robinson (Jim Hilliard), James Robinson (Ai), Jared Robinson (Cami Anderson); 3 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the staff at Rockynol for their loving care and support.
