TERRELL SHEALY (Terrier) left a message on November 16, 2018:
When I met Uncle Ed ( as we lovingly refer to him) during my visit from Cleveland, the kindness and warm welcoming smile of Aunt Virginia has stayed with me. I'll never forget that. My prayers are with the family. I wish we had met sooner in life. Prayers to all and especially to Donita, Amy and Uncle Ed
Jill Miller left a message on November 15, 2018:
Prayers of condolences to Ed and the family on the passing of Virginia. What a wonderful woman! Virginia was my first supervisor at Summit Co Children Services and although not new to the world of social work, I was new to the world of child welfare. There could not have been a better first mentor and supervisor for me than Virginia. She was the ultimate professional: providing knowledge and teaching specific skills necessary to make the biggest positive impact on the families with whom we worked. She taught me social work ethics that provided a moral compass that lasted my entire 42 year social work career. A funny story that Virginia and I would frequently recall: I admired, respected and loved Virginia so much. (As a white woman in my late 20s) I told Virginia that I wanted to be just like her. She went home and told Ed of my statement to which he replied “so she wants to be a middle-aged black woman?” Virginia thought that was the funniest response and we shared a big laugh over that for our remaining time together! As I moved into an administrative role in my career, I tried my best to always emulate what Virginia taught and role-modeled for me. Virginia will live forever in my heart.
