Walter Sweeney Jr. was born March 26, 1954, in Cleveland, Ohio to Juanita and Walter Sweeney Sr. who both preceded him in death. Walter, who was better known to all he encountered as “Music Man” and affectionately known as Smoochie to family, was the first born of 7 children and attended East High School. Walt was always a firm believer in God and has openly accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Walter was a very hard worker and loved whatever job he took on. He was a car mechanic, a truck driver, his hobby was carpentry as he loved working with his hands, he worked with Yellow Cab for over 30 years until their closing which is when he worked with his final job at Faithful Phoenix Express. Some would call him a true hustler but more than anything he loved helping others and was a true friend.
Walter’s pride and joy were his children, Jalita Sweeney (Deceased), Walter Sweeney III, Wallace Sweeney (Alyce Sweeney), Dalita Sweeney-Hicks (Clifford Hicks), Kimberly Sterling-Bates (Weldon Bates), Dennis Sterling (Deceased), Tyjuan “Daddy Man” Sweeney and helped raise Tyjuan’s siblings; Chavonne, Carlisha, Tanesha, Latisha and Ayesha.
Walt was always involved with music and had a love for a variety of genres, but his favorites were funk and R&B. He was one of the first to have a surround sound system with speakers he built in his van he dubbed “The Music Van”! He instilled his love for music into his children which continues to live on in them and their children. Walter was well known for his kindness, honesty, and loyalty to others as well as silliness and had the most infectious laugh which would make others laugh harder! He had a love for comedy, cartoons, westerns, and old “B movies” such as Dolomite, which was his favorite. He was a proud and strong man who was always working out. When Walt was younger, he tried out for the T.V game show Gladiators, and although he was not accepted, he was extremely proud of the experience. Many people don’t know, but in the late 1980’s, Walt was a weekly special guest on a church radio show where he would talk about his love for God and went by the name “Brother Sonny Love”. Walt was always busy and, on the go, but when you called him, he would take the time to talk and laugh but whenever the call ended, he would not hang up without saying “God Bless you, and I love you!”. Those words will forever be close, true, and dear and Walter “Music Man” Sweeney will forever be here!
