William “Bill” Barr Jr. was born January 7, 1947 in Indiana, Pennsylvania the son of William Raymond Barr Sr. and Della Olmizzi Barr. He had an intense love of his family, his Italian heritage, and his country.
He grew up in Derry, Pennsylvania surrounded by his large Italian family. Bill’s greatest passion in life was his love of his family, especially his wife Shelia, his seven children Ralph Greathouse, Jr. of Leavittsburg, Ohio; Erin “Angie” (Barr) Nash of Akron, Ohio; Dawn (Barr) Cobb of Leavittsburg, Ohio; Heather (Barr) Hankins of Warren,Ohio; Holly (Baun) Ward of Warren, Ohio; Natasha (Frenchko) Natale of Warren, Ohio; and Cassandra (Barr) Gray of Warren, Ohio; and his ten grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. On any given weekend and every holiday you would find him surrounded by his friends and family celebrating.
Bill appreciated the simple things in life. Having been a mechanic in his younger years, he had a passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles and fast cars (especially Corvettes). He was an excellent mechanic and his family and friends often turned to him for help when they needed a good mechanic, knowing the only payment he would take was a cold Rolling Rock. He was always happy to pass his knowledge of cars and motorcycles along to anyone that would listen, especially his children. He loved to play pool and was a lifelong member of the Eagles. He loved camping and swimming and had a campsite at Willow Lake for a number of years. He saw his friends as brothers and their families became part of his, with many of his friendships lasting more than 50 years.
As a father he was happy to pass on his love of music, especially doo-wop and disco. On any given weekend growing up everyone could be found gathered around a radio trying to call in to Wolfman Jack’s radio show to request a song.
Bill spent most of his life as a truck driver. He had been a member of the teamsters for over 30 years when he retired in 2010.
Retirement didn’t slow him down though, on any given day when the temperature rose above freezing, you could find him out on the golf course with his brother-in-law Bill Stein or his son-in-law Michael Cobb. When he wasn’t golfing he was working on his yard, his home or his Corvette.
Even after suffering a stroke that left him unable to speak, Bill continued to focus on his time with his family. He made sure the family was together every holiday and never missed a family reunion. He took every opportunity to sing and laugh with his family.
Bill passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio on Monday September 10, 2018 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife Shelia, his seven children, ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and sister Della Barr of Warren, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.
