William L Davis was born on July 16, 1948 in Montgomery Alabama to the late Dorothy and William Davis. He was affectionately called Lil Bubba by family and friends. He attended Southern Normal High School in Brewton, Alabama. He met the love of his life Evelyn Dacus soon after graduating High School.
They were married on August 9, 1969. He was drafted to the U. S. Army in 1970. He served in the Army until 1978 where he fought valiantly in the Vietnam and Korean Wars. During his tours he overcame being wounded and earned the Purple Heart along with the Republic of Vietnam Service, Armed Forces Expeditionary, Republic of Vietnam Campaign, National Defense Service and Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm medals. During his service Bubba and Evelyn welcomed their daughter Tajma. A year later their son Shaun was born.
In 1981 the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he started working as a postal carrier for the U. S. Postal Service. The family settled in Cleveland Heights where both Taj and Shaun attended school.
William and Evelyn loved to travel to various cities and states all over the country and took multiple cruises.
William attended Everlasting Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio.
Bubba worked for the Postal Service for over 28 years finally retiring in 2009. Now retired, William and Evelyn took the opportunity to increase their travels around the country.
William was a dedicated family man that loved his children, grandchildren and extended family. Family was of the upmost importance to him. He enjoyed being a big part of his grandson Lil Shaun’s childhood sports, taking him to and from practice and attending his games.
He was a notorious jokester that was known to be the life of the party. Bubba was loved by all who met him and quickly turned friends into family.
Bubba was the most loving and supportive husband to his wife Evelyn. They lived a life of caring, shared admiration and devotion for over 54 years. Evelyn was by his side as he took his last breath.
He fought hard to maintain his livelihood and after so many years it took it’s toll on his body. After a stroke in 2023 William left us on Thursday March 28, 2024 at his home.
William is survived by his loving wife Evelyn, daughter Tajma (Michael), son Shaun (Jennifer), grandchildren Shaun, Jordan, Janiah, Joshua and Jada whom he loved and cherished with all of his heart. He will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, brothers, and cousins. All his family and friends will forever know him as a person that cared, loved and cherished family.
