William “Epp” Eppinger Jr was born on May 12, 1942 to the union of William Sr. and Christine Eppinger in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended the local schools and graduated from Glenville High School. After graduation he continued in the workforce making his mark on life.
William was a man of many names. To his relatives and family, he was “Bube”, to his coworkers he was “Eppinger” and to his family and loved ones he was “Epp”. Ever since he was a young man, he understood the value of hard work and earning a living. From the family restaurant Viola’s to the family asphalt business Zone Driveway. He started his career in law enforcement with Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department. He later went to work full-time with Cuyahoga Community College Police Department and part-time with Highland Hills Police Department. He retired from Tri-C in 2004 after 25 years of service. Even after retiring he kept busy and began driving for Provide a Ride service.
William accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and attended Elizabeth Baptist Church where his parents were members. He later re-dedicated his life to Christ at Olivet Institutional Baptist Church in 2009. He also became a Master Mason and joined the Prince Hall Grand Lodge in 1987 and the Imperial Council of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in 1988.
William was the type of man who never backed down from a challenge. From bid whist to spades he commanded the table and attention. If a card game was going on you knew he was going to be at the table. He made his presence known with his loud and booming voice. Epp was a very social person. He enjoyed family gatherings, grilling in the backyard, and telling stories to everyone he met. Whether you were a childhood friend or someone he met as an adult he was going to be a loyal and trustworthy friend for life.
From his previous marriage and relationship two children were born Gary and Michelle Eppinger. He later married Anita Laverne in 1971 and to that union two children were born Tonya and Alisha.
William “Epp” departed this life on January 17, 2022 at Euclid General Hospital. He leaves to cherish his memories, spouse Anita Laverne, son Gary, daughters Michelle, Tonya, and Alisha. Grandchildren Braxton, Gary II, Bryson, Chelsea, Taylor, and Rodney Jr. One great grandson Tristan. Siblings Janet, David, Susan, Lenora, and Levella. Aunt Susie and Uncle James (Hamburger). A host of nephews, nieces, cousins, in laws and numerous other family members and friends. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
