Willie Loretta Haymon died at her home on Monday, June 13, 2022 in Shaker Heights, Ohio. She was 72 years old.
Willie was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to the late Willie P. Counts and Robert L. Counts. Her sister, Tina Mae Jackson, preceded her in death.
Willie graduated from Colemon High School in 1969 and attended Capital City Business College before moving to Cleveland.
She spent her career in working with and advocating for individuals with developmental disabilities. She was employed as a Residential Care Supervisor at Warrensville Developmental Center and received numerous accolades for her initiative, creativity, ability to motivate others, strong leadership, high standards and keen eye for decorating. She earned several awards and commendations including the Residential Care Supervisor of the Year Award.
She retired from public service in 2005.
She was a caring and loving friend, confidant and advisor to many.
Willie is survived by her sons, Eunicholas and Lawrence, grandsons, Lawrence Drake and Bryson Macom, and a host of family and friends.
Willie was a very private person and expressed her desire to have a simple “no frills” homegoing. “Gather, Greet and Go” was how she put
it. A Memorial Gathering for friends and family will take place on Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 4pm- 7pm at Calhouns Funeral Home in Bedford Heights, Ohio. Her final resting place, at her request, will be at the gravesite of her parents in Pine Bluff, Arkansas where her ashes will be interred.
Although she may not be physically near us anymore, her loving spirit and precious memories will be with us always
