Yolanda Germaine Walker was born January 29, 1961, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the proud parents Arthur and Rosemary Porter.
Yolanda, affectionately known to her family as Poochie and to so many others as Yo Yo, and “Hollywood” as her uncle would call her, was the firstborn of four siblings. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was most recently baptized again at The Euclid Church of Christ in Euclid, Ohio.
Yolanda was educated in the Shaker, East Cleveland, and Cleveland Public School systems. She spent years working alongside her mother and father at the family Satellite Dry Cleaners business. Her last job was as a home health care provider, a profession in which she took great pride. She loved all of her clients as family.
On a pleasant day in September 1990, Yolanda and Herbert met. Herbert, whom she and the family called Herbie, or Big Daddy when she wanted to get jazzy, became the love of her life. From the day they met, it was sunshine and blue skies for the couple. On June 3, 2007, they were married in Cleveland, Ohio.
Yolanda was a very family-oriented woman, and there was never anything she would not do for her family. “Ask her, and she would make it happen,” and many times, you did not even have to ask her. Poochie had a great laugh, a wonderful sense of humor, and could light up any room with her quick wit.
She loved live entertainment, concerts, traveling, and shopping. As the years passed, Yolanda proudly embraced her role as the matriarch of the family and wore that title well. She was more than a great cook and hosted many family gatherings at her home on Othello Avenue. She especially loved holidays, her birthday, and hosting Christmas.
Above all, Yolanda’s greatest love was for her children. Her devotion to them was deep and unwavering, and her love for them was difficult to match.
Yolanda departed this life on her way to Heaven on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Rosemary Porter, and her siblings, Sabrina Porter Davis and Arthur Porter Jr.
Yolanda’s legacy lives on and will forever be cherished by her husband, Herbert E. Walker; children, Tahnesia Porter, Christian Dior Porter, David Porter, and Ashley Porter; sister, Toi Porter; father, Arthur Porter Sr.; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Yolanda will truly be missed by her family and friends and will never be forgotten.
